Steve was always involved in sports from baseball to soccer in high school to tennis, golf, and karate post-graduation. He holds two black belts, Goju-Ryu and the Shroin-Ryu Shorinkan. Steve has always been an advocate for health and fitness. He stayed fit through the gym, weight training, running, teaching fitness classes, and going to karate classes. He always felt that the gym was a fit for his schedule and weight training to obtain his “gains”. Hesitant at first to give CrossFit a chance, he decided to go to a class at CrossFit Stonington and never looked back. He increased his endurance and strength and changed the way he “worked out”. In no time, he was accomplishing muscle ups, double unders, and reaching PRs (personal record) on time, weights, and mobility. “Since every workout is different, some as short as 3 minutes and as long as 40 minutes, it provides this adrenaline rush while actively fulfilling my fitness goals.”

During his time outside the box, he works as a massage therapist and medical device representative and helps raise his two daughters. Steve is not a stranger to muscle weakness, soreness and injuries due to his education in massage therapy. He understands how injuries can and do occur, so he strives to ensure that members are using the correct form and techniques to reduce injury.

Steve's obsession didn't stop with just the workouts. In 2021, Steve became the new owner of CrossFit Stonington! Steve is now Owner, Head Coach, and Programmer for Stonington Athletics.

Megan has always been very active playing sports. In high school she juggled playing varsity soccer during the week, traveling soccer on weekends as well as taking care for and showing her horse. Megan attended college at Salve Regina University from where she also obtained her MBA. At the collegiate level, Megan rode on the Equestrian Team where she made it to Nationals and also ran cross country. After College, Megan continued her love of exercise by competing in road races, half marathons, marathons and cycling events.

Megan remained active throughout her two pregnancies and her first few years of motherhood but saw the need to find an alternative means of exercising as her children were outgrowing the double stroller. In May 2013 Megan and her husband Bill came to see what CrossFit Stonington was all about. They both fell in love and have been hooked ever since. Megan competes in local CrossFit events where the discipline feeds her desire to compete and continually improve herself.

From an early age, Heidii has had a passion for participating in competitive sports including running, swimming, basketball, field hockey, snowboarding, tennis and has had a desire to be the best she could be at everything in everything she tried.

In October of 2013, Heidii came to CFS, as a mom of two whose exercise routine had become stale. She had become increasingly frustrated with the lack of results she was getting with her current routine so she decided to make a change and give CrossFit a try. In the first few weeks, she began to see results and she quickly recruited her husband and later her children to join. When Heidii came to us, she had chronic shoulder problems but, over time with the proper mobility and form, her shoulder was strengthened and she found she could move far better than she had been able to in the last 15 years. CrossFit has allowed her to move with increased mobility, faster and stronger, after major shoulder surgery.

CrossFit revived Heidii’s passions not only in fitness but in photography as well. She began taking pictures during the CrossFit Open after she first began and loved being able to capture the intensity of our athletes and the overwhelming support from our community. She has continued with that over the last few years and has recently started her own photography business. Because of her love for CrossFit, she decided to become a Level 1 Certified Trainer and most recently, a CrossFit Kids Certified Trainer. Heidii loved how CrossFit brought all of her passions together: family, fitness and photography while feeling challenged every day and as well as being a part of a very supportive community.

Her belief is if it doesn’t challenge you it doesn’t change you. She fell in love with CrossFit because it allowed her to push herself to limits she didn’t know she had and she wanted to be able to share it with others and teach them that being active through all stages of life should be a top priority not only physically but also mentally.

Around 2015, Melissa walked into CrossFit Stonington as a young 22 year old fresh out of undergrad with no idea what her future held. Since then, she has figured out her path in life and become more of her own person than she ever believed possible. CrossFit was a huge part of her journey.

After almost her whole family gave it a try, she got home from URI and wanted to give it a shot with her sister. She never thought CFS would mean so much to her and QUICKLY fell in love with the sport. There she was redoing scaled Opens workouts just a few months in, jumping into her first competition (scaled), and loving every second of it. Over the years she jumped into a competition with her sister, had an absolute blast at our in house summer showdowns, and looked forward to 5:30 classes more than anyone probably had any idea. She even finally completed her first Murph.

This sport and the people she has met through it have become such an important part of her life and she doesn’t believe she would be where she is today without CrossFit. Melissa has had some of her best and worst days in this gym, shed tears good and bad, and loved that it would always be there the next day no matter what. CrossFit Stonington quickly became her safe place and a place she knew would make her better in so many ways. She's been pushed mentally and physically to limits she didn’t know could exist and has loved every second.

Since about year two of this adventure she knew she wanted to be a coach. She put off this dream for a while, and is now so happy to have finally went after it. As of March 2021, Melissa is officially CF L1 certified!
